Five of us decided that come Saturday around 9.00am we would head up the coast from Christchurch to the coastal town of Kaikoura. I had taken a fall a couple of weeks back and had landed across a small concrete curbing and bruised my tailbone! If you have ever done this you will understand how bloody sore it is!..Saturday arrived and I got kitted up and climbed aboard the Storm. I have a longhaul gel seat so it was sort of ok...until I hit the first bump that is!...GEEEZ! But being keen and somewhat stubborn on I went. The day was overcast with morning showers predicted but clearing soon after so after meeting the others, off we went. The showers turned to rain then eased ...then got rainy again and so it went for 200 kms all the while my tailbone was getting very tender and I was trying to take the weight on my legs to stop the pain. But of course there are the bumps you don't see through the rain on the visor as well as diesel on the road making things slippery. We arrived in Kaikoura in a drizzle and refuelled and I settled into an all day breakfast off hash browns, bacon, sausages and a couple of eggs with toast and coffee chaser...By now my tailbone was more than tender and we had 200 kms to return home! Gratefully the rain eased off which made the return home a lot better with lotsa nice corners and quite a bit quicker travelling. I think I will be taking it easy for a few weeks and let the tailbone heal up.

Nice little write up of the trip Tal I could almost smell that breakfast! Hope this isn't the case, but I injured my coxis (tail bone) and it took many years (probably 6) before I was actually unaware of discomfort. I think my brain eventually just programmed it out. Get another layer down ... sheepskin butt pad ... take anti inflammatory caps and you'll be good for a few miles.

G'day Tal,

I really enjoyed your breakfast a treat.

For your tail bone, have a look at the new AIRHAWK R seat cushions with the Tailbone Tunnel.

It may be of benefit, especially with a facility for your Sacrum/Coccyx.

A relative of mine injured the tail bone ( Coccyx ) & it took about 3 months for it to heal & even then a year or two later if it was irritated it could flare up & become very painful . I think some anti inflammatory meds would definitely help , probably too late for ice to do much good but worth a try. Rest & try not to irritate the injury will help a lot.
Good luck hope it doesn't hang around too long being a pain in the arse literally.

Thanx guys for the comments and relief theories...will be trying those ideas...got me to wondering, are there drugs out there, maybe the smoking kind, that will paralyse the arse bones only?? surely??...I make a bit of wine that paralyzes my legs and mouth...and a bit of shine that paralyzes my eyes, all good at the appropriate time but not while on me scooter!...ah well, time heals most wounds....LETS RIDE!

Tal I damaged mine back when I was in my late twenties, came off a yammie XT500 and bounced down the road on my arse.

Mine still gets sore but I have relief by using the Airhawk and fitting softer springs to my Ikons, it's never really healed. Twisties and bad roads upset it but I just try to ignore , after a short stop, fuel etc it's ok for another hour or so.

Hope yours is just temporary.

Those bloody yamahas!....soundz very bloody sore!...mines healing quite well actually, just get the normal stiff back which comes with years of abuse and a recent herniated disc operation dosnt help...never mind, there are others a lot worse than me that's for sure!
